Deputy President William Ruto has been told to forget the Mt Kenya votes in his bid for presidency in the 2022 general elections.

DP Ruto has already declared his interest to succeed his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, lately announcing Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa as his preferred running mate.

Speaking during a NASA campaign rally in Kericho on Wednesday, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said it is not a guarantee that the DP will be endorsed by the residents of the vote-rich region.

"Ruto is riding on a false hope that he  will be endorsed by Jubilee Party as its presidential candidate in the 2022 State House race. He is campaigning furiously for President Kenyatta, yet he is not sure that he will be supported in 2022 like he has done," said Junet.

The ODM Party Director of Elections observed that five years is a very long period in politics for a total overhaul to occur.

He said Ruto's agreement with Uhuru is not cast on a stone, noting that another popular candidate can emerge from the region and be supported.

"Somebody who is even more popular that Uhuru can surface and convince the Mt. Kenya region to vote for him. Where will be your son, Ruto," Junet posed to Kericho residents.

Uhuru and Ruto had an agreement in 2013 polls that the latter supports Uhuru for two five-year terms and then the President returns the favor and rally support for his deputy in 2022.
