Reports indicate that a Transline Classic Matatu headed for Kisii from Nairobi caught fire Friday evening and claimed lives of passengers inside.

The 11.30 PM incident which occurred near Mai Mahiu resulted when the matatu hit a lorry in a head-on collision and went into flames.

Only the driver and four other passengers were rescued before the fire destroyed the whole vehicle and burnt the rest of the passenger stuck inside.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established though it is believed to have resulted from the accident impact.
