Lucy Odhiambo had been convicted of murdering Gabriel Owuoth on 12 July 2007 in Siru Siaya County of which she pleaded guilty to have committed the crime.

While delivering his verdict, Justice Majanja reduced her charges from murder to manslaughter disclosing that the court had established that Odhiambo had on and off mental problems.

Witnesses who had testified in the court earlier on stated that on the day when the accused committed the crime, she was visiting a relative's house where she had also spent a night.

During that night, she woke up and started kicking her children and when the diseased tried to restrain her, she attacked him with a machete and a club.

Owuoth died while being rushed to a Siaya hospital. Autopsy results showed that he succumbed to injuries inflicted on his skull.

Justice Majanja directed Odhiambo’s relatives to take care of her and to ensure that she takes her medication lest she descends on them.

“Since you have been on remand for ten years now, you are free to go back home but you will serve a two years’ probation period,” stated Justice Majanja.

Justice Majanja pressed upon her relatives to protect her since they had vowed to integrate her back into their family and community.
