Speaking in his Nairobi home, Maraga promised to improve efficiency of the judiciary, as well fight for the less privileged.

“I am excited, ready and I will work with colleagues to ensure an efficient service delivery. We still have a long way to go. This is a challenging position but I am ready to give it my best,” he said.

Maraga, a devoted Christian promised to help clear a backlog of cases at the judiciary, as well as continue with the good work that Mutunga started.

“I will also harness technology in hearing of cases, which include automated recording of proceedings,” he said.

Leaders from across the political divide as well as Kenyans from all over the country congratulated the 64-year-old for his appointment, which will wait for the president’s approval before taking office.

Maraga led Smokin Wanjala and Makau Mutua in the race for the judiciary’s top seat.
