The High Court judgment by Justice George Odunga that convicted Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over contempt of court may have as well buried his career as a state officer.

Should president Uhuru Kenyatta fail to relieve him off his duties, any Kenyan can now move to court citing Chapter Six of the constitution for his removal.

"The main respondent has defied court orders not just once. The court cannot allow immunity and impunity to prevail. He is in contempt of the court and must appear for sentencing," he said.

For the second successive month, Matiang'i and senior immigration officials have failed to produce embattled lawyer Miguna Miguna in court.

Lawyer Harun Ndubi now says Matiang'i is no longer fit to hold any public office since he has been convicted in a court of law.

"We are now talking of a convict. Chapter Six of the constitution is very clear and anyone should move to court to push for his removal if Uhuru fails to act," he says.

As a state officer, Maiang'i's integrity has been put in question and legally, he cannot be cleared by CID in case of an application for Certificate of Good Conduct.
