The student is said to have jumped into into the septic tank and died in what is claimed to be a suicide.

It is not clear why he committed suicide, but the students say he looked disturbed when they were taking supper.

He left behind a suicide note which the school administration is still with holding.

The students accused the administration of laxity in saving the boy.

“I was in class after supper when I heard students shout from the latrines and when I got there, I would see one of the students in the septic tank and he was trying to call for help but the teachers stopped us to help him saying it was too risky and that we wait for a rescue team,” said one of the students.

The chairman of the Red Cross Society said they rescued the boy who was unconscious but died upon arrival at the hospital.

“It took us some time to get the boy out of the sewer but efforts to save him bore no fruits as the doctors at Kabarnet Hospital pronounced him dead on arrival,” said Kenneth Kiprop.

The students accused the school administration of negligence as most of the septic tanks in the school compound where not sealed.

“Most of the septic tanks in the school compound are not closed up which is a threat to our safety like the one that took Peter’s life.” Says Dennis Koech.

Efforts to speak to the school management did not bear any fruit.
