ANC Musalia Mudavadi’s spokesperson Kibisu Kabatesi has refuted claims that Cord MPs visited the former deputy Prime Minister in an effort to talk him out of the 2017 presidential bid.
Kabatesi was responding to claims by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali who on Saturday claimed during a meeting in Matungu that Cord leader Raila Odinga had sent MPs to Mudavadi urging him to shelve his quest for the top job and instead vie for the Nairobi County governorship.
According to the Star, Kabatesi said the allegations are part of the Jubilee propaganda to scuttle the proposed National Super Alliance whose aims is to unite key opposition parties as they seek to oust President Uhuru Kenyatta from power in the 2017 elections.
"There has never been such a visit and claims by Washiali are part of Jubilee propaganda to confuse Luhya support for Mudavadi," said Kabatesi on Tuesday in a statement as quoted by the Star.
"It is a well-known fact that the likes of Washiali are better off campaigning for Uhuru than offering themselves for re-election," Kabatesi said.
He added that neither Mudavadi nor Raila need a go-between to talk to each other as they engage in one-on-one talks quite often.
He accused Jubilee of engaging in cheap propaganda over the fear of facing a united opposition with Mudavadi as its flag bearer.
Kabatesi said Washiali and group are using cheap propaganda to ruin for former deputy Prime Minister’s plans at the expense of Jubilee handouts.
"Unfortunately for Uhuru, the likes of Washiali profess support for Jubilee during the day but swear allegiance to handsome hand-outs at night while begging for accommodation in the opposition," he said.
