The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chief Executive Officer, Ezra Chiloba has cautioned Kabete aspirants and voters against taking part in electoral malpractices.
In a statement to newsrooms on Sunday, Chiloba said that stern action will be taken against aspirants and voters caught engaging in malpractices.
The CEO said the commission will work with the police to monitor the voting and that anyone caught contravening voting rules will be arrested.
“The Commission hereby cautions aspirants and those who might be tempted to take part in election malpractices, culprits will be dealt with according to the law,” read part of the statement.
Chiloba further said that everything is set ahead of the by-election with over 60,000 registered voters expected to cast their votes.
The CEO said that voting centers will open at exactly 6 am and will close at 5 pm.
Speaking to the press on Sunday at Uthiru polling station, IEBC Returning Officer Esther Wanjiku said voter materials have been distributed to all the 33 polling stations.
She said that polling officers and clerks have been deployed across the polling stations in readiness for the Monday exercise.
The Returning Officer said that adequate officers have been deployed in all polling stations to keep vigil and order.
“We have at least 184 police officers who have been deployed at all polling centres, each polling centre will have two police officers,” she said.
Nine candidates among them former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu is set to battle it out for the seat that was left vacant by former MP George Muchai.
Muchai and his three aided were killed early February in Nairobi by armed gunman.
