This is after allegedly incurring losses running into millions of shillings in an operation led by Waititu aimed at flushing out illegal operators.

The operation was carried out by the MP who was accompanied by about 20 young men who allegedly broke into more than 20 bars.

According to Waititu, Wangige among other areas in Kabete, has been greatly affected by the sale of illicit brews, something he said he intended to put a stop to.

Speaking to reporters at a hotel in the area, the business owners condemned the method that was used, saying that it affected even those who had valid paperwork and permits for their businesses.

Hannah Njuguna, the owner and proprietor of Crystal Bar said that she gave the MP access to inspect her business since she had all the necessary licenses.

“The group, however, went ahead to break various items and pull down the television and sound system,” she said.

Another pub owner, Bernard Muriu, whose business was also affected said that there was more looting than inspection and he has every intention of seeking legal reprieve for the losses he incurred.

“I have lost more than Sh1 million,” he said.

Milkah Muthoni, a trader at Wangige market said that even though she supports the MP’s intentions fully, she wishes that the inspection would have been done in a more orderly fashion.

“Right now we are grappling with layers upon layers of shattered glass. The stench of the spilled beer is also almost unbearable,” she said.

Scores of people visited the town on Monday to witness the aftermath of the attack.
