Youth in Kabete Sub-county received Sh2 million from Uwezo Fund on Thursday to help them start income generating projects.

Speaking during the distribution of the cheques at Kabete offices, area MP George Muchai urged the beneficiaries to utilize the money wisely to improve their livelihoods and repay the loan.

“This money is supposed to be repaid and I urge the youth to spend it wisely,” said Muchai.

He added that the national government had taken the interests of youth seriously and therefore seen the need to empower to enable them to contribute to the growth of the county.

The lawmaker said that the money is been disbursed in tranches and urged more youth to form groups to benefit from the fund.

“We are giving the money in phases and those who did not get in this will get in the next phase,” said Muchai.

He said the fund has taken a new direction in creating job employment to youth and has reduced incidence of crime among them.

Kabete constituency Uwezo Fund Chairperson Jennifer Waiyaki said that her office has received many application forms from different youth groups indicating that the demand of the loans is too high.

“We have over 90 application forms on our list and we are going through them,” said Waiyaki.

Other groups that benefited from the fund included women and people living with disabilities groups ( PLWDs).
