Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has renewed his attack on Deputy President William Ruto over 2022 succession politics.
Kabogo now says the DP is on a mission to curtail his ambition of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 if he is elected for another term in August polls.
He said it is not given that the people of Mount Kenya, where President Kenyatta comes from, will pick Ruto as their preferred presidential candidate to take over the State House.
"We will not elect anyone in 2022 unless we see the work done. I am not going to deputise anyone. He (Ruto) can actually also be my deputy," he said.
The flamboyant governor accused Ruto of using Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu to sabotage his aspirations to lead the country.
"I had said it a while back and I will say it again. My main aim is to make the lives of Kenyans better but I am being fought by those who want to be President in 2022," the governor said.
Kabogo's accusations come a day after former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth accused the DP of rigging him out in favour of his rival Mike Sonko, during the Jubilee Party primaries held in April.
“Our opponent was assisted by somebody who wanted to cut me to size politically…and let's not cheat ourselves, that person is DP Ruto,” Kenneth said on Tuesday during a rally at Mlango Kubwa, Mathare Constituency.
Both Kabogo and Kenneth ditched Jubilee to run as independent candidates after they lost in JP primaries.
In a recent interview with the Star, Kabogo said that 'people' told him that the DP was the mastermind behind his loss to his archrival Waititu.
In June 2016, the governor said Mt Kenya voting bloc does not guarantee support for Ruto in 2022 polls.
He said people from the region will decide as a community who to support for President, remarks that attracted heavy criticism from political leaders from Central and Rift Valley regions.
