Kiambu County Governor, William Kabogo, has challenged youth to set up income generating ventures in order to improve their livelihoods.

Speaking on Saturday during the celebrations of the Youth Week at the county headquarters, the governor advised youth to generate income by starting up small businesses either individually or in groups so that they can better their lives.

“I would like to advise you to initiate small income generating ventures instead of staying idle at home. You can venture into business alone or join a group of three to 12 people. Come up with ideas and initiate projects that will generate some income so that you can become financially stable,” said Kabogo.

He further urged them to shun drugs and instead engage in activities that can empower them. He said that young people have a role to play in the economic development of the county, adding that the youthful generation can determine the direction the economy of the country will take.

Speaking during the same forum, Kiambu County Sports and Youth Affairs Executive, Machel Waikenda told youth in the county to apply for Biashara Fund and start business ventures instead of engaging in criminal activities.

He said that the fund offers an opportunity for young people in the county to improve their lives.

Waikenda said that the fund attracts friendly lending terms because no interest is accrued on the loan apart from a five per cent administrative fee and 0.05 percent insurance fee in case of death or permanent disability.

He said that youth should not shy away from borrowing the loans because of the fear that there might be other extra charges, saying that the terms are youth friendly.

The CeC added that the county government is committed to empowering young people both socially and economically.
