Kabogo says that religious leaders have a role to play in persuading Kenyans to register as voters and take part in elections.

Speaking during a meet the people tour in Limuru town on Tuesday, Kabogo said that it is a civic duty of every citizen to participate in the electoral processes.

He said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will be able to meet its target in the ongoing voter registration exercise if unregistered Kenyans come out to register.

“Religious and community leaders should come out and help us persuade Kenyans to register as voters,” he said.

Kabogo noted that Kenyans can only elect good leaders who will champion for development if they register as voters and participate in electoral processes.

The Kiambu County boss at the same time urged the IEBC to conduct proper sensitization campaigns’ on the one-month voter registration that started on Monday.

He said that the commission has a duty to educate Kenyans on the electoral process ahead of the August 8 elections. The second phase mass voter registration kicked off on Monday across the country.

The IEBC targets to register six million new voters to add to the existing 15 Million registered voters in readiness for the August 8 polls.
