Kiambu County governor William Kabogo has challenged leaders and residents to champion environment conservation.
Speaking on Saturday at Chania 14 Falls in Thika to mark the world Earth Day, Kabogo said that environment conservation is the responsibility of every citizen.
The Kiambu county Governor noted that environment destruction was to blame for the changes in climate change.
He said that environment conservation is one of the key agendas for his government.
“We all must champion environment conservation so that we can guarantee a great future for the generations to come,” he said. Kabogo intimated that adequate funds have been allocated to programmes aimed at environment conservation.
The Kiambu governor also said that his government is partnering with local and foreign investors to promote environment conservation.
The Governor cited that Kango’ki Land Fill project in Thika saying that it will address garbage menace once completed. “The county government has taken various initiatives aimed at guaranteeing a safe environment for locals,” he added.
Kabogo urged youths to be on the front-line and come up with ideas that will champion environment conservation.
County Environment minister Esther Njuguna said that the county had made strides in environment conservation. She said that various tree planting programmes have been organised across the county.
Njuguna urged locals to plant trees saying it is the only way they can contribute to promoting a safe environment. The World Earth Day is celebrated globally to create awareness and appreciate environment conservation.
