Kiambu governor William Kabogo has asked women in the county to take part in active politics.
Speaking during the Annual General Meeting for A.I.P.C.A church Ngaringa on Saturday, Kabogo said that women have a chance to actively engage in politics but they were not using it.
The governor said that women stood a better chance to empower themselves and contribute to development if they took part in active politics.
“The constitution has given women the opportunity to engage in politics and other national agendas and I urge them to take advantage of it,” said Kabogo.
He stated that women could help transform the country if they fully engaged in national activities and development agenda.
The governor said that his government recognised the role of women in development and added that his government has started various empowerment programmes for women in Kiambu.
"Our aim is to empower women socially, economically and also politically,” he said.
Kabogo challenged women who are already in leadership to champion for the rights of their own.
He observed that empowering women was similar to empowering the society, adding that his government would continue to agitate for the rights and welfare of women.
