Kiambu governor William Kabogo has urged residents to register with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to be able to access proper healthcare services.

Speaking when he opened a maternity wing and a theatre at Igegania Level 4 Hospital in Gatundu North on Tuesday, Kabogo noted that most residents are not registered with NHIF.

He said that such residents find it difficult to access medical care especially in regards to chronic diseases like Cancer.

Kabogo said that locals have no information about the national health fund.

“ The national government must educate Kenyans about NHIF so that they can enter the scheme and access proper healthcare,” he stated.

Kabogo also asked the national government to review NHIF rates so that it can accommodate many Kenyans.

He observed that the current rates are high and many Kenyans cannot afford it.

The Kiambu governor said his government is closely working with the national government to ensure locals have access to healthcare.

Kabogo stated the county government has heavily invested in healthcare.

The governor who also unveiled eight modern emergency ambulances said his government has partnered with foreign healthcare service providers to ensure locals have access quality healthcare.

Elsewhere at Ngoingwa, Kabogo put on notice county workers who are not performing. He said his government will not tolerate workers who are non-performers.

“I have received numerous complaints from the locals over delays in service delivery in some county departments. Anyone who fails to perform will not be part of Kiambu government,” he said.

Kabogo asked county staff to commit to service delivery.
