Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has urged politicians across the political divide to shelves their political differences and champion for unity and peace ahead of the forthcoming 2017 general elections.

Speaking during  the official  opening of the ongoing Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games at Thika stadium on Monday, Kabogo said that politicians have a crucial role to play in terms of ensuring unity and peace as the country prepares for the 2017 polls.

The governor observed that the country needs a peaceful environment for the 2017 elections.

“As we approach the 2017 elections it is important as political leaders to be on the front line in preaching and encouraging unity among Kenyans across the country,” said Kabogo.

At the same time, the Kiambu governor called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to come up with programs that will ensure unity among Kenyans ahead of the polls.

“NCIC should scale up its work and ensure that there is peace  and stability across the country as we approach the 2017 polls,” added Kabogo.

The Kiambu county boss also appealed to the Francis Ole Kaparo led the commission to crack the whip on hate mongers who take advantage of the electioneering period to spew hate.

He said that the country will be able to foster stability and achieve her development goals is there is a peaceful and stable environment before, during and after elections.
