The governor told reporters at Kimuchu ward that the government has to quickly listen and address teachers' demands.

He said the planned strike is likey to paralyse learning countrywide, hence the need for urgent address.

“The government should listen to the issues being brought forward by teachers,” said Kabogo.

The governor, however, urged the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials to give dialogue a chance as they present their issues to be addressed.

Kabogo said the education sector is key and should not be interrupted, adding that both teachers and the government should sit down and engage in dialogue amicably.

KNUT has issued a notice to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of a nationwide teachers strike starting Monday.

Wilson Sossion, KNUT’s secretary general, said the strike notice is still on despite the meeting scheduled for Saturday between the union and TSC.

“We will not call off the planned strike despite receiving a lelter inviting us to talks on Saturday,” said Sossion.

The secretary general has accused the government of playing games with their demands, saying the planned strike would the ‘mother’ of all strikes ever called for by the union.

On Monday, Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi urged the teachers' union to give dialogue a chance, saying that the strike would not provide solutions.
