Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been charged with ethnic contempt.

Kabogo is accused of uttering words intended to incite feelings of contempt against persons and some communities in Kenya who do not embrace male circumcision. 

He denied the charge when he appeared before Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku was freed on a Sh500,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

The case will be heard on September 22.

Kabogo was honouring summons to appear in court today for the remarks he made On Nov 25, 2015 last year.

The orders were given by Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo upon an application by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Leonard Maingi, who asked the court to summon Kabogo to appear in court and take a plea on the charges.
