Concerns have continued to be raised over the slow pace at which road repairs and expansions are being executed in Thika town and its outskirts.
The business community in Thika town led by Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Secretary Alfred Wanyoike has said that the construction activities have continued to hamper business activities in the town.
"We have for several times raised our concerns that these road construction activities are affecting our businesses negatively. When they were beginning the construction works almost a year ago, they had assured us that that it would be done fast and on schedule. A year later, not a single of those roads can be said to be complete," said Wanyoike on Wednesday during the association's meeting in the town.
He asserted that many business premises still remain locked behind closed roads and their accessibility remain a challenge. They are now calling for the construction activities to be expedited to cushion them from encountering further losses which he said they have been incurring since the constructions started early last year.
"We have been hearing rumours that the works may extend to next year. We appeal to the county government to ensure that we don't go that way because it will mean more losses for us businessmen," he added.
Governor William Kabogo and the County Chief Officer in charge of Roads Lucas Wahinya are currently reported to be in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on a fact finding mission meant to help the county government build more affordable and durable roads.
The small stretches of roads that are under construction currently within Thika town alone are said to be worth tens of millions of shillings on completion.
