Kiambu County governor William Kabogo on Tuesday led in a tree planting exercise in Kirasha Primary School Lari sub-county.
Governor Kabogo who was accompanied by other officials from the county and hundreds of residents who turned out in large numbers, urged the residents to be on the frontline in environmental conservation.
In the tree planting campaign which kicked off on Tuesday, Kabogo affirmed that the main concern of the campaign is to address the problems emanating from environmental degradation and encroachment of natural water sources.
“We aim at sensitising Kiambu Residents to take advantage of the current rains and plant as many trees as possible as the only way to avert serious problems arising from destruction of environment which include but not limited to acute water shortages,” said Kabogo.
He also pledged to fully support and implement projects geared towards raising the standards of living of people in the county.
“In addition to the tree planting campaign, we have also started issuing rain water harvesting tanks and gutters to schools and linking them with the green school initiatives. This way, we shall curb the persistent water shortage trend that has been apparent especially when rains subside.,” added Kabogo.
Governor Kabogo also urged the residents to take on the campaign to repossess lost water catchment areas due to encroachment by some irresponsible members of the public.
“We hope that the launch of this campaign will have a huge impact on protection of our water towers and repossession of the encroached water catchment areas for our future generations. Let us keep Kiambu County Green,” reiterated Governor Kabogo.
