The last few weeks have been almost pin drop silent in Kiambu County with the country not hearing of the governor answering back to MPs accusations, MCAs shouting down what the county executives are doing and vice versa.
This is the kind of environment that is fertile for development and economic growth. When the people are treated to shenanigans and power wars, nothing gets done.
George Kamau, a Kikuyu resident, said he was happy to see Kiambu County during the Sunday night news named as the county collecting the highest amount of revenue in Central Kenya. “This means Kiambu is setting a precedent for other county governments in the country by bringing in the biggest share of monetary resources for development and other works,” said Kamau.
Some may argue that the county leadership was on the downside misappropriating money, or even there were still holes through which revenue was slipping through and not reaching the county basket. However, no system was ever 100 per cent foolproof but at least the Governor William Kabogo government was indeed getting something right, Kamau added.
Others noted that whenever Kabogo was distracted by the likes of MP Ferdinand Waititu who plan to wrestle the gubernatorial seat from him come 2017, the loser was never Waititu but Kabogo who would be judged by the people of Kiambu based on his 2013 manifesto and how much he delivered.
“Kabogo must keep busy working. We can see from media reports and works on the ground that he is doing a lot. However, when he engages in unproductive political attacks with leaders, he scores poorly. He must learn to ignore those who wish his track record ill,” said Francis Waweru, a Limuru resident.
Waweru added that the people of Kiambu might even re-elect Kabogo again because of his boldness.
“Kabogo is known across Kenya. I was in Kakamega, and men there have respect for his courage and challenging the national leaders despite being a county leader. Politics and leadership requires such traits as Kabogo has,” said Waweru.
