Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has opposed President Uhuru Kenyatta's call for six-piece voting in August polls, terming it undemocratic.
Kabogo, who is defending his seat as an independent candidate, said voters should be allowed to elect leaders of their choice without being subjected to six-piece voting pattern.
“Kenya has come of age and voters for the first time will vote for individuals, not political parties. Kenyans should be left to decide,” Kabogo insisted.
The Governor maintained he is backing President Kenyatta's re-election but said the Jubilee party leader should not ignore independent candidates because they can determine winners.
"If I have 30,000 followers and another independent candidate has 5,000, do you want to tell me they can ignore us?” he posed during a youth meeting in Gatundu South.
President Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, have been calling on the electorate to embrace the six-piece-voting pattern for Jubilee candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
"Elect a Jubilee Governor, Senator, MPs, and MCAs. Together with them, the Deputy President and I will go on implementing projects that will continue lifting your lives," the Head of State told Jubilee supporters in Nandi County, last week.
