Thika’s Madaraka primary school parents have hailed Kiambu governor William Kabogo for revoking a directive to haver the school run by the Catholic Church.
The directive was allegedly issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi.
Speaking at the institution on Monday, the governor ordered the school closed indefinitely until all matters about the said institution are resolved.
The CS’ directive would have the school a mission school where the catholic nuns would take charge of the affairs of the school.
Janet Kananu, a mother of four said the handing over of the school would have locked out children from humble families.
“My greatest shock was where to get 14,000 shilling for school fees. We cannot accept public utilities to be turned into private property without our consent,” said Kananu.
The governor said he led parents and pupils of the school in reclaiming the public institution which had been turned private.
The school was formerly run by the defunct municipal council and the county government will assist in all ways possible to ensure the school remains public property.
