Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has said that the problem facing many Kenyans is not high commodity prices but rather the lack of purchasing power.

Kabogo believes that if that problem was addressed, Kenyans would not complain of high commodity prices.

"What every government ought to embark on and what we have been doing in Kiambu is to empower its citizenry. If somebody is able to put say sh 1000 in the pocket at the end of the day and even buy that maize flour at sh200, he or she wouldn't feel a pinch," said Kabogo on NTV's 'Maamuzi 2017' program on Monday.

"Al shabab or terrorism isn't our biggest enemy as a nation but unemployment is. If you are able to get youths out of the streets by giving them something to do and earn from, you have solved all the other problems. In Kiambu we have tried to do this through Biashara Fund," he stated.

Kabogo said that for the last four years he has embarked on a transformation journey which he wants to continue if given an opportunity by Kiambu voters.

He asked them to ignore party politics saying that they should elect individuals who are going to work for them.
