Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo on Tuesday promised to push for enactment of a bill in the county assembly to enable mau mau veterans’ access free medical services.
The governor said freedom fighters are prone to many illnesses and, therefore, should receive the appropriate and suitable medical attention.
“Our freedom fighters should not struggle to access quality medical services. Enactment of this bill will ensure the services are available and equitably distributed to all of them within our county,” Kabogo said.
He said the government should express a form of appreciation to the freedom fighters adding granting them free medical cover would enable them live a healthy and peaceful life.
“As we celebrate this day, I must acclaim and celebrate our own liberators who suffered for our country and who are known to belong to our county,” he said while he recognised some of the veterans like Gitu wa Kahengeri.
He was speaking at Ndumberi Stadium during the celebrations to mark Mashujaa Day on Tuesday where he called upon the residents of Kiambu to recognise the efforts by the veterans in fighting for freedom.
“The best thing now is to recognise their efforts and take good care of them. We should remember that they dedicated their lives for the future generations and we are part of the generation,” Kabogo added.
