Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has taken an about-turn, asserting that he is a friend and supporter of Deputy President William Ruto.
Kabogo said he was misquoted by the media and his message was received out of context and pledged to be in the forefront to rally the region behind Ruto.
Speaking at Kimunye village in Kirinyaga County over the weekend during the burial of area Governor Joseph Ndathi’s father, Kabogo however, said such political support should be two-way.
He told off his critics saying they are “busybodies out to use his remarks to gain political mileage.”
He was taken to task by Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba, MPs Njogu Barua (Gichugu) and Joseph Gitari (Kirinyaga Central) over remarks that Mount Kenya will not automatically support the DP in 2022.
“I challenge the Kiambu Governor to tell us whether the sentiments attributed to him in a section of the press are true, since what we read in the paper is shocking and this doesn’t represent views of our people,” said Gitari.
Karaba said Mt Kenya region has already decided to support Ruto for President in 2022.
Barua said it will be imprudent for residents of Mt Kenya region not to support DP in 2022, adding that Uhuru Kenyatta is President because Ruto walked out of Orange Democratic Movement and teamed up with him in 2012.
He said the people of Mt Kenya region will reciprocate and support the DP in 2022.
