Kiambu county governor William Kabogo has vowed to engage women in matters administration through empowerment programmes and providing leadership opportunities to them.

Speaking today in Ruiru where he met Kiambu County Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation members, Kabogo affirmed that such empowerment will go a long way in addressing a myriad of issues including prevalent cases of illicit brews.

“My government is committed to empowering women to change the society. Through participation in various government activities, we shall see to it that some challenges facing our society including the fight for illicit brews are addressed effectively,” said Kabogo.

Kiambu county women representative Anne Nyokabi Gatheca who had accompanied the governor, lauded him for increased efforts to engage women in matters of governance.

“We are lucky to have a governor who listens to the plight of women and addresses them. We have been given various slots in the government and it is upon us women to grab those opportunities with both hands so that we can make a positive impact on society.

She added: “The era of men domineering at the expense of women empowerment is long gone.”

Kabogo also praised the women for their relentless efforts in positively impacting the society and pledged his support for them.

“We are still committed to empowering the women through the County's Biashara fund. We have been at the forefront in providing leadership opportunities for women and participation in decision making processes within the county,” said Kabogo.
