Speaking at his Thika office on Tuesday, Kabogo said that reverting health to the national government will deny Kenyans at grass root access to quality health services.

Kabogo said that devolution of health has been fruitful despite the several challenges that have been experienced in some counties.

“I urge senators and MPs to vote against the bill seeking to revert health to the national government once brought to the floor of the houses,” he said.

Kabogo said that those spearheading the bill are enemies of devolution and want to deny Kenyans quality services.

The Kiambu boss said that devolution of health has improved services and seen many Kenyans benefit from cheap and accessible healthcare.

The governor said that many resources have been pumped into the sector and that reverting it to the government will be a great setback.

He urged the national government to support the sector which he said is important to the growth of the economy.

Meanwhile, the Kiambu county government intends to hire 200 nurses starting January to increase service delivery to the people.

According to the county health executive Jonah Mwangi, enough funds have been set aside for the exercise.

Mwangi said that the county currently faces serious shortage of nurses and laboratory technicians.

The executive also announced the county’s plans to increase bed capacity in all sub-county hospitals.
