It is now not a sure thing as to who Mt Kenya residents will vote for as president come 2022.
This is according to Kiambu governor William Kabogo who was speaking on election matters in Juja.
In a statement that seemed to be addressed to Deputy President William Ruto, Kabogo said that the decision of the people as to who would become president would not be automatic and favoured towards a specific candidate. He stated that whoever wanted to be president would have to earn the trust and loyalty of the people.
Kabogo was speaking at Muiri farm in Juja where he went on to explain that the region had quite a number of votes which had to be split accordingly once President Kenyatta was done with his term.
"Even if we promised someone a seat, we will have to sit down and talk. We will not just give away the seat like that. We have the votes and, therefore, have to be respected," said Kabogo.
This comes just months after President Kenyatta had visited the area asking the people to support Ruto as president come 2022.
The decision is now in the hands of Kiambu residents and what they decide will most probably determine who the next president of Kenya will be.
Despite Kabogo’s claims, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw'a who is also a very controversial critic of the governor said that it was not dependent on him as to how the people of the area vote. He pointed out that each individual would vote for who they deem fit for the presidential seat when that time comes.
