Construction of Karatina Road in Thika that will pass through a section of the Thika Main Prison will commence soon after the Kiambu government and the national government reached an agreement yesterday.

According to Kiambu governor William Kabogo, the planned construction of the new road in Thika had been halted after a disagreement between the county government and the Prisons department.

The new road had been proposed to pass through a section of Thika main prison a move the Prison department had objected.

After holding a meeting with the Commissioner of Prisons Isaiah Osugo at his Thika offices on Wednesday, Governor Kabogo said that they had agreed for the construction to start.

He said that some of the houses at the Thika Prison where the road will pass through will be demolished.

“We have agreed with the Prisons department that the road will pass through a section of Thika prison and we have already allocated new houses to officers whose houses will be demolished to pave way for the construction,” said Kabogo.

Kabogo said the construction of the new road will ease traffic in Thika and open up the area for development.

He stated that the county government is committed to improve the state of roads in the county.

The Kiambu governor said that repairs of all roads have been commissioned. He added that enough funds have been set aside to oversee all road repairs.

The Governor said that county is banking on infrastructure to boost development.

“We want to assure residents and business people that road standards will be improved so that business can flourish,” he said.
