Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has accused some politicians in the county of allegedly inciting the residents against his government.

Kabogo claims that some politicians are keen to turn Kiambu locals against the county government.

Addressing the press at Kiambu town on Thursday, Kabogo said that some politicians were using the recent burning down of Makongeni market in Thika by suspected arsonists and the demolitions of stalls in Ruiru to incite the people against the government.

“We are aware that some politicians are out to create enmity and distrust between Kiambu people and the government by spreading rumours and allegations that the county government is responsible for the Makongeni fire and other bad things,” said Kabogo.

He asked leaders to bring Kiambu people together instead of creating enmity and divisions. He also asked politicians to verify their information before giving it to the public.

Kabogo said that the county government is a representative of all locals and will work for the interests of all citizens. He said that leaders have a responsibility to preach unity and not to cause rifts between the people and the government.

He maintained that the county government was not involved in recent demolitions of stalls in Ruiru and Juja. He said that police had launched investigations into the demolitions and the suspected arson on Makongeni market.

At the same time, Kabogo said that his government will renovate the Madaraka Market that was burned down on Sunday by unknown people.

Several leaders have accused the county government of frustrating traders and hawkers and also being behind recent demolitions in Ruiru and Juja.

The county government maintains that it was not involved in the demolitions.
