Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been summoned by Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo to appear in court on August 5 to answer to charges of ethnic contempt following utterances Kabogo allegedly made on November 25, 2015.
Speaking at Thika stadium during musician John de Mathew's memorial, Kabogo was recorded saying in Swahili:
"Basi nyinyi watu wa magazeti mwambie Raila aache upuzi, aache nini? Sisi hatutaki upuzi ,"which translates to;
"You, the media guys should ask Raila to stop his stupid actions. We don't want stupidity ."
The Kiambu governor also allegedly called Cord leader Raila Odinga a boy, insinuating uncircumcised, and that Odinga was retarded mentally by the fact of not undergoing what is in Kabogo's culture a rite of passage.
"Kenyans should not waste time with boys or what do you say? I have often told you that the thing is not good because it is not something that you can detach, it retards a person backwards mentally. Are you with me?" Kabogo said.
The governor has however said that he has the money and is very much ready for court action.
