Gitothua MCA Patrick Chege has supported calls to have Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as a running mate for Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 general elections.
Speaking at Gatukuyu trading centre in Gatundu North on Saturday, Chege said that Kabogo is the best candidate to be Ruto’s running mate.
He said that those opposed to the idea of Kabogo deputizing Ruto are envious and would want to frustrate the idea.
“We have heard some people oppose the idea of Kabogo deputizing Ruto in 2022 and want to tell them that we are going to push for it,” he said.
The MCA said that Kabogo has the political experience and knowledge to deputise Ruto.
Chege who is also the county assembly leader of majority added that they will sell the idea to other leaders in the central region in readiness for the 2022 polls.
Other Kiambu MCAs who have endorsed Kabogo to deputise Ruto are county assembly deputy speaker Antony Macharia, Mang’u MCA Kimani Gachihi and Kamwangi MCA Ng’ang’a Wamuthua.
Last week, Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi lashed out at MCAs who have endorsed Kabogo for the position saying it was too early.
Wamatangi termed the move as premature politics urging leaders to focus on serving the people instead of engaging in early political campaigns.
The move by a section of MCAs to endorse Kabogo as running mate for DP Ruto is likely to open a political debate in regards to 2022 politics where central region is expected to support the candidature of Deputy President William Ruto as President after the retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta's term.
