Kiambu county government has completed installation of 10 milk cooler machines and a pasteuriser at Gaitimayu and Ndumberi dairies and ready for its launch slated for next month, county executive for Agriculture Dr Monica Waiganjo has said.
Speaking during the inspection of the coolers on Wednesday, Ms Waiganjo said the coolers will be launched by Governor William Kabogo on February 9.
Dr Waiganjo said the coolers will benefit over 3,000 dairy farmers in the area adding that it will also motivate more locals to practice dairy farming.
She added that the 10 milk coolers and one pasteuriser will further enable farmers to preserve and market high quality milk.
“The installation of cooler machines and a pasteuriser have been completed and we expect to launch it next month by our Governor William Kabogo so that dairy farmers can start enjoying the services,” said the Agriculture executive.
Dr Waiganjo said the county government has put in place mechanisms to promote dairy farming.
The CeC who was accompanied by the county Chief Officer for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Department John Njenga urged locals to embrace dairy farming saying that it’s profitable and easy to maintain.
She also urged youth in the county to use the development funds being given to them by the government to venture into agriculture.
