Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has called on youths in Kiambu to respect the elderly in the society, and not to abandon them in their homes.
According to Kabogo, the elderly people in the society have been neglected, where their children have vacated to the city, forgetting the rural area where family and relatives still need them.
Speaking in Kabete on Tuesday, the county boss expressed his concern to the elderly, saying they are our heroes who fought for the independence of the country.
“The elderly are our heroes in the society and thus we should respect them since they fought for our independence,” said Kabogo.
The governor revealed that plans are underway to establish more retirement homes in the county to cater for the elderly, who are neglected in the society.
He said that his government values the elderly people, who fought for the independence of the country, and urged other leaders to value the old and treat them in a special way.
According to the governor, the retirement home will only benefit the Kiambu residents, and urged the national government to come up with ways to establish a governmental nursing home that will be affordable to the common Mwananchi to respect the elderly in the country.
“If the national government can come up with strategy to establish retirement homes for the elderly in an affordable price, will be a big plan and strategy,” said the governor.
Kabogo has appealed to any well wishers in the county to come out and help raise money to establish the nursing and retirement home in the county, which he says will be a big boost to the people of Kiambu in terms of humanity.
