Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Senator Kimani Wamatangi once again clashed during the Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee meeting on audit queries.
The war of words between Kabogo and Wamatangi almost halted the proceedings on Thursday after Wamatangi accused Kabogo of failing to provide all financial documents for auditing.
Senator Wamatangi accused Kabogo’s government of failing to provide financial documents for auditing reminding him that his failure to provide documents was punishable by law.
At some point Kabogo refused to answer questions from Wamatangi.
“Governor, it will be better if you could exercise patience and listen, your government did not avail all financial documents for audit during the auditing period,” said Wamatangi.
An angry Kabogo replied back asking the senator not to push him to the wall.
Kabogo said that all the financial documents for the 2014/2015 Financial Year were availed for auditing to the Auditor General.
“When he says that I should exercise patience in listening, what does he mean? I am avoiding that stage Governor Evans Kidero went through,” said Kabogo in reference to a past meeting that saw Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko almost fight when they appeared before the committee two months ago.
Kabogo said that he was ready to respond to the audit queries in a structured manner.
Wamatangi hit back at Kabogo saying that he had the mandate to ask questions on behalf of the people.
It took the intervention of the committee chairman Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o to bring order and allow the proceedings to go on.
Kabogo defended his government against leakages of revenue saying that it has complied with all national directives in regards to management of public funds.
He said the county has fully adopted the IFMIS system in its transactions.
Kabogo also said that his government had adhered to procurement regulations.
This is not the first time the two leaders have clashed during the committee meeting.
Early this year the two leaders clashed over audit queries when Wamatangi accused Kabogo of failing to account for the money allocated to the county.
