Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo says the electoral commission is not ready to conduct fresh presidential election set for October 26.
The former county boss has asked the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to move to the Supreme Court to ask for more time to prepare for credible polls.
On September 1, the top court nullified August 8 presidential election, ordering the electoral agency to conduct a fresh poll within 60 days.
"Chebukati can go to the Supreme Court that told him to hold an election within 60 days and ask for more time. This is important for the country," he said, speaking at Jacaranda Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday.
Kabogo's remarks come a day after Chebukati cast doubts on the possibility of holding credible elections next week.
The IEBC boss blamed it on a sharply divided commission and a creepy political class.
Kabogo said there is need to consider Chebukati's fears that the repeat poll might not meet the threshold.
"The country is at risk of drifting into civil strife if an election is held under the current political atmosphere," he added.
Kabogo was addressing journalists after a meeting with a group of leaders supporting the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The meeting was attended by Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, former Senators Sammy Leshore and Peter Mositet and a number of ex-MPs.
