Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has warned bar and restaurants which open before 5pm that their licenses will be revoked and face the rule of law.
This comes after the county boss stormed in a bar and restaurant at 2pm in the afternoon and found patrons being served before the scheduled time by the government.
Mahiga Bar and Restaurant will, according to Kabogo, face the rule of law, and its license revoked for going contrary to the ‘Mututho law’.
Kabogo, who was speaking in Thika town on Thursday, expressed his concerns with the bars which sell alcohol before the scheduled time, saying it is lagging the county behind in times of development.
He said that a drinking nation cannot cater for their families, thus results to crime, which has become rampant in some part of Kiambu like Ngoingwa region, Kiganjo and Kiandutu slums.
The legislator urged the residents to avoid such joints which sell alcohol before the appropriate time, saying their only goal was to sell and make money and not checking their welfare.
He said that the bars and restaurants which are the environs of those selling before scheduled time should report the matter to the police, since they are the ones losing as they will not have clients by the time they open.
He added that in partnership with the Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru, they will launch a crackdown to tame the joints and wines and spirits which go contrary to the law,
Atleast 16 people were arrested in the Mahiga joint and are in Thika police custody.
