The county is already employing a new road technology that uses special enzymes to harden the murram and make it long lasting and less dusty. A demo pilot road is being done by an Israel company in Kang'oki area, Thika Makongeni.

According to Lucas Wahinya, a county road engineer, the new technology will hasten the rehabilitation of rural access roads and reduce the cost by close to 50 percent.

"Once fully adopted, this technology will see to it that more roads, including those with black cotton soils, are rehabilitated in a short period of time and at a reduced cost," said Wahinya.

Joseph Tum who works with the Israel company reported that the technology has been used for long in Israel and has been a great success story which has been imported by other foreign countries.
