Kiambu Governor William Kabogo's wife, Philomena Kabogo has called upon Kiambu women to be vigilant this August holiday in taming their children to reduce cases of crime in the county.

She said that school drop outs in the county is on the rise especially in slums areas citing Kiandutu slums where children as young as 12 years are loitering in the streets and some are used as beggars.

Mrs Kabogo said that young girls in the urban centres in Kiambu were being turned into house helps by their parents who send them to work and earn a living instead of being in school to better their lives.

“Girl child education is the most important thing in a society, thus parents should ensure that they educate their daughters the same way their sons are being educated,” added Kabogo.

Speaking in Githunguri when she graced the Annual Breastfeeding Week event at Githunguri health centre on Wednesday, Philomena Kabogo fired warning to parents who spearhead the heinous act that their days are numbered.

She added that those employers who employ underage girls and turn them into house helps that they will be apprehended.

The county first lady further called upon residents to be on the lookout and fish out those involved into such activity to save the future generation towards vision 2030.

Philomena also said that in partnership with the Kiambu County police commandant, James Mugera, they will ensure that they probe homesteads in the county Kiandutu, Athena, Kiganjo and Ngoingwa being the most notorious estates in the county.

She added that the fight against crime and drug abuse will not be tamed if appropriate measures will not be set in place where school children need not to be infringed their right to education.
