Kagumu is said to be the largest primary schools in Gilgil Sub-County with over 500 pupils.

Peter Maina the school chairman said that they have decided to close the school after learning that their children were suffering.

“The school has only four teachers who are already overwhelmed by work,” said Maina.

Maina said that the four teachers are inadequate, a move that had adversely affected education standards in the facility.

Good Governance Nakuru County chairman Moses Gitonga termed the crisis as serious and urged the ministry of education to intervene.

Gitonga said it is children constitution right to get education adding that the school need more teachers for learning to go on smoothly.

However Gilgil Sub-County education officer Samuel Njathi moved in to defuse the tension adding that two more teachers had been posted to the school.

He said that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) would address cases of indiscipline amongst teachers following parents’ complaints.

"The issue of teachers’ shortage is well documented and we are addressing it. We call upon the parents to bring back their children," he said.
