National Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman Joseph Kaguthi has decried the increasing cases of hate messages on social media platforms.

Kaguthi addressing residents in Naivasha on Friday said the vice escalated during the recent electioneering period and continues unabated.

He said the number of people spreading hate on social media is on the rise and is a security threat.

"People are being incited on social media to fight. This is posing a security threat to our country because the offenders are going unpunished," he said.

He called on security agencies to investigate, arrest and prosecute culprits for the sake of peace in the country.

"Kenya should be at peace after long election period that caused divisions in our country. As a country, we have made steps which no one should be allowed to joke with. I urge communities to live in peace, unity and harmony,"he added.
