National Committee on Citizen Participation in Security chairman Joseph Kaguthi has warned against the formation of vigilante groups in certain parts of the country to fight insecurity.Kaguthi, who is also the chairman of the Nyumba Kumi Initiative in the country said the groups would increase cases of crime."Although formed with good intentions, vigilante groups usually end up being infiltrated with criminals," he noted.His remarks come after a section of leaders in Meru County vowed to engage vigilante groups to fight cattle rustlers from the neighbouring counties.Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i was also recently accused of planning to revive outlawed Chinkororo group to fight NASA supporters.The group used to defend the Kisiis by fighting neighbours who threatened the security of the community along the borders.Speaking in Nakuru County on Sunday during a meeting with Nyumba Kumi officials, Kaguthi also accused security agents of not supporting the initiative.He called on the both the national and county governments to support the initiative in order to fight crime in the country.
