Residents of Kahawa Wendani have raised concerns following an increase in prostitution in the area.
Currently, there is a street where women carry out the trade in the late hours of the night.
Christine Makimei, the area chief speaking at her office yesterday, said that getting the twilight girls off the street is hard as according to the law, both the partners must be arrested which proves difficult.
She added that the fines levied on the commercial workers are lenient and therefore they return to the streets even after being arrested making it difficult for the law enforcers to keep them off.
Makimei added that most of the ladies are not campus students as is presumed by the residents.
Speaking to Linda Nkirote, a resident in Kahawa, she said that at around 11pm, the area behind Nakumatt Supermarket is flooded with skimpily dressed ladies in the trade.
She added that this has brought moral decay in our society and HIV/AIDS will also be in the rise. She said that most of the ladies are young and are presume to be the campus students as they make a large percentage of the occupants of Wendani.
Liz Nyaboke, a student at Kenyatta University said that not all the sex workers are students even though a big number of students live in the area.
