A section of Nyeri leaders have come out to term as lies the claim that they are plotting to block the swearing in of Nyeri deputy governor Mutahi Kahiga as the new boss.

They said the claims by a section of 'Kahiga allies' were malicious and aimed at denting their image in public.

Kahiga's swearing in is scheduled  for today Monday. There has been word of Kahiga being compelled to step down so that the county can go  to a by-election with him as a candidate.

According to earlier reports, the leaders dismissed Kahiga's leadership ability and said that he would not manage to handle the country with his earlier teaching experience.

Mr Kagwe, who contested for the governor's seat in the August 8 elections, said nobody could revise the Constitution concerning assumption of office following death of a governor.

“Our Constitution is very clear that if a governor dies, the deputy automatically takes over. Any debate on the contrary is in futility,” he said. He noted that it was not time to discuss whether Mr Kahiga should be sworn in because the matter is sealed by the Constitution," he said.

“If there are any meetings to be held, they should be aimed at unifying the county,” he added.
