Kahuho residents in Kabete sub-county have given Kiambu County government a 14-day ultimatum to repair toilets at the trading center.
Speaking today at Kahuho Trading Center, Muguga Ward, KabeteConstituency, the residents say the toilets at the market place are in deplorable condition.
“The toilets are hardly cleaned and flies have multiplied at an alarming rate,” said Alice Wanjiru, a tea vendor at the market.
The residents fear an outbreak of cholera and urged the county government to address the issue before a health crisis breaks.
“The dirty toilets are exposing us to cholera,” added Wanjiru.
James Kihika, a businessman said that lack of good toilets in the market place is denting the market’s image.
“Toilets are important assets and any denial of affordable toilets brings shame to kahuho residents,” said Kihika.
The residents say that they pay taxes to the county government of Kiambu yet the services rendered are below standard.
“We pay taxes so that the county government can address issues of health among other issues but the county government has failed to deliver quality services,” added Kihika.
The residents have given Kiambu County government a 14-day ultimatum to address the health issue failure to which they will demonstrate and stop paying taxes.
The residents’ outcry comes in the wake of cholera outbreak in some counties including Nakuru, Muran'ga and Kirinyaga where several people have lost lives.
However Kiambu health authorities have been urging residents to observe cleanliness to avoid cholera outbreak.
