Lands CS Jacob Kaimenyi has faulted a section of politicians for inciting residents against titles deeds issued by the government.
Speaking when he toured the Mombasa County Lands Registry, Kaimenyi accused the unnamed politicians of lying to Kenyans that the title deeds are fake.
The CS gave an example of the Waitiki farm in Likoni, saying President Uhuru Kenyatta issued over 5,000 title deeds in January but only 3,000 have been collected.
“We have processed over 2.4 million title deeds in the last four years, but majority of these titles are still uncollected at the lands offices. It is very unfortunate that we have politicians who go round the country lying to Kenyans that Uhuru’s title deeds are not genuine,” said Kaimenyi.
He also cited Kwale County where over 28,000 titles have been processed, but over 10,000 have remained uncollected.
The CS called upon Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki and the Lands officers in the region to ensure the remaining titles are collected by their respective owners.
“You need to hold sensitization forums and organize a meeting or rally where you will issue out processed title deeds to the residents,” said Kaimenyi.
The CS further warned against corruption in the Lands Ministry, adding that cartles will not be tolerated.
“We cannot afford to be seen as a country of bribery. I put on notice all those involved to stop immediately because we shall come for them. We will be carrying out transfers within the ministry. However, not everyone will be affected, it is only in areas we believe there is weakness,” said Kaimenyi.
