Uasin Gishu County Education CeC Enock Mwikei has condemned Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi for failing to implement the Kilemi Mwiria report on secondary school fees.
Addressing the press in Eldoret on Tuesday (today), Mwikei said that the county has received more than 500 bursary requests from pupils who have been admitted to national schools but they cannot afford the huge fees.
"The fees being asked by these institutions is quite prohibitive to the extent that parents are now considering taking their children to the county and sub county schools", said Mwikei.
Mwikei has urged Kaimenyi to come up clear and explain why his ministry has failed to implement the report.
The executive is now asking the area MPs and MCAs to chip in and assist the students with bursaries saying that they risk losing their chances despite having performed well.
"We are asking the MCAs and area MPs through their Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to consider allocating funds to sponsor the children. It will be painful for them to miss the slots,” said Mwikei.
