Lands Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi has urged principals to apply for title deeds.

He says, this will prevent grabbing by private developers who eye public utilities.

"According to a research conducted by Shule Yangu Alliance in 2016 out of 29,404 public schools in Kenya 24,405 do not have titles,16,172 not surveyed and 12,055 schools are at risk of being grabbed," he said Friday, at Moi Girls Secondary School after issuing 1000 title deeds to schools.

"The government has waived statutory fees for the registration, survey and titling process for public school land by both the ministry of lands and physical planning. Principals should take advantage and apply for them," added Kaimenyi.

He reiterated, Uasin Gishu County has been the pilot of the school titling program where 694 public schools audited, 144 schools surveyed, 200 titles processed and 350 headteachers in the county trained on requirements of titling of schools.

He however, urged principals and management board to ensure they fence their school land to avoid encroachment.

"A piece of land that is not demarcated attract grabbers therefore fencing is paramount to avoid such cases," said Kaimenyi.
